Climate Change and our Carbon Footprint are very much in the news at the moment.
Some of us may enjoy the 35 degree heatwaves, less so the torrential downpours and flash floods. Love it or loathe it however, it is difficult to deny that our climate has changed and many would say that this has been caused by our carbon emissions.
“Do you need to print this email?” is commonly seen at the end of an email. Paper – and the trees from which it is produced – obviously being a valuable resource.
However we have been looking into the impact of emails themselves on our carbon footprint, with the help of The Carbon Literacy Project.
As a result we are looking to change some of our systems in ways which we help will also improve our service to you our customers!
We have changed our online order form to one which allows you to order anything from a Celebration Cake through Afternoon Tea to a Sandwich Platter. Less questions, more space for you to tell us what you would like!
All these enquiries will come to a central email address from where they will be directed to the team member best placed to assist you. Wherever possible this will be with a phone call (video if you prefer) rather than a series of emails.
The phone call may mean we can pop your booking in the diary and take payment. It could mean asking for more information, or inviting you in for a chat over a cuppa! Wherever possible we aim to reduce long email threads and in doing so reduce our carbon footprint as well as yours.
This new approach should also take less time, allowing us to take on more orders. And hopefully it will mean less late nights for the team!
The new form is to be found here.
We have had some itsy bitsy teething issues with it so for the time being we have left our other online forms here
Please do try and use the new form if you can and be aware the old ones will be gone in a day or two.
Whilst we’re on the subject of Climate Change we would just like to remind you that we are doing all we can to run our business in the most sustainable ways possible. We buy from local suppliers wherever possible, in particular our local farm in Harefield. Our coffee cups are compostable and as much packaging as possible is recyclable. We aim to keep food waste to an absolute minimum – leftover bread makes delicious bread pudding and our end of day mystery boxes are hugely popular. Egg shells and any other unavoidable food waste go to generate electricity (more information here!)
We are always looking to improve so please do let us know of any ways in which we can help more. We’re sorry that the recycling of Ella’s Pouches has temporarily stopped but that is currently out of our hands.
And thank you as always for reading – hope to see you soon!
