Thanks for your interest in our Baking and Cake Decorating Classes. We’re looking forward to welcoming you to The Kitchen.
Just a few details and frequently asked questions to make sure you get the most from your class.
We will start promptly so plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early to pop your bag away, put on a pinny and wash your hands. You are only charged for the time of the actual class and we want to make the most of it. There is some parking in roads adjacent to The Kitchen, and a pay and display car park two minutes walk away. We have one car parking space that is available on request if you have difficulty walking. The Kitchen is wheelchair friendly with a ramp and accessible toilet but please let us know in advance if you require a lower table to work on.
Please don’t wear dangly jewellery or rings other than a wedding band. And no nail varnish! We do have food handling gloves but it is often easier to use your bare hands. We provide aprons which are available to borrow or purchase, the best thing to wear underneath is a white shirt. Leave the fluffy jumpers at home – we’ll make sure the heating is on! There is a reason for all of this – when modelling decorations you don’t want to see fibres from your clothes or flecks of varnish in the sugarpaste.
Long hair should be tied back, or we can provide hairnets (!) We’re very fussy about these things in The Kitchen so please don’t be offended.
There will be a maximum of six people in the classes, to ensure everyone gets the help and tuition they need. If you have a group of friends you would like to come with we can put on another date rather than split you up so do please enquire. We also do less formal hen parties, birthday parties etc in the shop area where you can relax with a drink and make flowers, butterflies etc using the huge variety of moulds on offer. Class descriptions will explain if any previous knowledge or experience is required but all classes are open to all ages, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls!
The cost of the class includes a cup of tea or coffee. Additional drinks can be purchased, along with cakes. If you would like a glass of wine please feel free to bring your own but we will offer paper cups in The Kitchen area in case of breakages.
Many of the moulds and cutters you will use are available to buy in The Kitchen. If out of stock we can usually get them for you in two to three days. Cake decorating is a great hobby and we hope you will come back for more classes and to learn new techniques.
Classes must end promptly out of respect for our neighbours – please leave quietly! You can work until the class end of time, you don’t pay to wash and clear up!
Full payment is required to secure your place. If you are unable to attend we can offer a refund if we are able to re-sell the place, or you can transfer it to a friend or family member. There is often a discount for two or more courses booked at the same time – do enquire.
